Happy Monday!  As I sit here once again, dreading the walk down the stairs to the studio, it occurred to me that I have absolutely no stamping to share.  I’ve spent the better part of the last 5 days sitting on the couch watching old movies and surfing the internet.  I know that I will be paying for this slacking pleasure when my deadlines are looming and I’m not ready.  Yes, I need to get off my fanny and take the plunge but there are other things on my mind and I’m drawing a creative block.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is a new camera.  I so want a digital SLR, and can’t decide on which one.  I have always been a Canon user, ever since we bought our first AE1 Program back in the early 80’s.  I still have that camera and my daughters both used it during high school photography classes.  The sad thing is that film cameras are a thing of the past and I’ve never taken the time to look at new ones that weren’t point and shoot.  Yes, I have a fabulous Canon G7, 10 megapixels, that is easy to carry and does all that I want.  However, I have an itch . . . an itch for a new Canon SLR that is more than 10 megapixels.  Here’s my reasoning  . . . why should I buy another camera that is anything less than what I have now.  If there is anyone out there that has purchased camera equipment online, I would love to hear all about it.  What site?  Who has the best prices that can be trusted?  We all know that we can get better deals online that going to the local Best Buys or Circuit City.  I’ve been surfing the internet looking at all the sites, prices, etc., and now I am so totally confused that I am beginning to doubt myself.  So, I need some help.  Tell me what you know!

In the meantime, I have been following the photography challenges on Splitcoaststampers.  This is a fairly new challenge, started by Angie Zublionis, and she always has some interesting photos to go along with her challenges.  I have to admit that I’ve been lurking in this forum since Angie told me about the challenges back in the fall.

I couldn’t resist any longer, and decided to participate in this week’s challenge.  The challenge is to find reflections on anything.  Of course, I staged mine since we have no snow, ice or anything shimmery right now.  However, I will be out walking around with camera in hand looking for that perfect reflection.

PC15 Reflections

This is a fairy doll that my mother gave one the girls as a Christmas decoration over the weekend.  I sat her on my dresser to achieve the reflection in the mirror.  Why do I like this photo?  I love the depth of field achieved by having the camera on macro blurring the actual doll, but giving me a detailed reflection.

So much for more rambling today . . . have a good one!

  1. I hear you about the break!! I, too, will be paying for it later!! WOW! I’m not good at photography, but Angie really does have some beautiful pics on her blog!!

Hope your Christmas was wonderful and I wish you all the best for the up-coming New Year!!

  2. This is too cool!! I’ve been playing around with taking pictures on our point and shoot….not high tech, but might have to see what I can come up with using my little camera (I too, have a good camera from college photography…but that film thing…not even sure I have film for it!! (or can find film!)

  3. Hi Sherry, I have the Canon EOS 20D and love it. I asked Santa for a new camera body and he gave me the EOS 50D. I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, as we’re out of town, but as soon as I do, I’ll let you know. A really good place to buy cameras for a decent price is B & H Photo. I buy everything from them, including all my lenses. They don’t give rock bottom prices, but they are very fairly priced, free shipping and no sales tax (and when you’re buying a high ticket item, having no sales tax will save you a lot). They are very reliable and have very knowledgeable sales staff if you have any questions.

I haven’t blogged in two weeks Sherry, Stephen is home until January 6 and I’m spending time with my guys. For the first time ever my husband has taken off from December 24 through January 2. I’m having a wonderful time with them!

    I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family! I wish you the very best for the New Year . . . .{{{hugs}}}

  4. I had no idea there were photography challenges on SCS. I would not participate as I only seem to be able to point and shoot at my staged cards. I try to take pictures of the animals and they don’t seem to turn out. I don’t know how to use my camera for more than what you taught me when I started the DD. Ugh! I am so challenged. I love your fairy picture. The light on it is so cool.

  5. Sherry, here is a link to Steve’s Digicams, you can find reviews and what is rated as the BEST camera. http://www.steves-digicams.com/
I see Jerri suggested B & H Photography and that is where Santa told me he purchased my new camera from. Thanks for letting us know about the photography challenge over at SCS! I will have to check that out! I love your fairy picture! So glad to hear you had a wonderful Christmas with your family!

  6. I buy paper crafting supplies from here but as you can see from the name their specialty is camaras. http://www.wolfcamera.com/

Their prices for the supplies are very reasonable and they ship fast. Looks like shipping is free for much of the camara stuff. Also saw something about getting credit towards new ones for trade ins. Wouldn’t hurt to check them out.

  7. I’m looking at the Canon XSI on Amazon. They are running specials and special gifts with purchase through the middle of January on select Canon DSLR cams and accessories… You can get $100 off when you buy the cam and a specific telephoto lens, for instance.

Good luck with your purchase! 🙂

  8. Hi Sherry!
    Happy New Year to you!
I got the Canon Rebel XSI (DSLR) for Christmas from Amazon .com. I LOVE it!
After much research, I found they had the best price, and as mentioned above, when you purchase the 55-250mm lens for zoom, it was discounted another 100.00 when purchased with the camera itself :0) There are a ton of fly by night websites out there that have seemingly dirt cheap prices, but found when I searched for fraud claims or unhappy customer posts, they were rampant! There is one big company that has many, many unhappy customers and it seems they just change their company’s site name and url when they get too many complaints, so beware ;0) They own about 10 or 12 different trade names and sites, but are all run by the same shady business practices.
Enjoy whichever you choose and let us know!
    Jennifer Good
