This morning I called my hand surgeon, the one who operated on my trigger thumb last year, to see if he would look at my wrist.  Luckily he was in the New Albany office today and I could see him at 1:00.  My aunt came to take me and stayed with me throughout the office visit.

Good news!  I don’t need surgery . . . in their words . . . perfect, it was perfect.  I asked . . . Perfect?  yes a perfect break, requiring no surgery.

Bad news!  they don’t have white casts anymore!  The choices were:  pink, purple, red, blue, black  . . . no white!  I asked for white . . . I wanted white!  Why?  Well to alter of course!  your ideas to alter my cast was perfect!  What color did I get . . . my aunt picked it . . . then went oh know, too bright!

pink

well, I think it can be airbrushed.  Yes, I think it can be!

I’m one handed for 3 weeks at least.  however they did leave my fingers exposed and said typing was exercise and I should exercise my fingers . . . YES!

Don’t you think this looks like it would pack one hell of a backhand?  I think so!  Maybe a spinning backhand?  Deadly!  I ‘ve been known to break 3 boards with a palm fist . . . . now with a cast!  deadly!

That’s all for now . . . its been a long day!  I will tell you this . . . mark your calendars for September 9 . . . Something GOOD this way comes!

In the mean time, I don’t know what I’ll be able to do if anything artsy wise.  The thumb needs to stop hurting first . . . . that’s where its broke . . . The radius right below my thumb.  Geeze not soft tissue . . . . . bwahahahahahaha.

Thanks for stopping by . . . remember life is short, make each day count!

  2. This looks like “Hello Kitty” pink to me. I hope you mend quick. 🙂

  3. At least there are no designs on your hot pink cast. It still screams to be altered by you, don’t you think?

  4. OMG, brightttttt pink. I think I would have loved to have purple. I just got a lousy white 1-1/2 inch cast. Isn’t the aunty just lovely. She is great. Hope to see your artsy juices flowing soon.

  14. I hope your wrist heals quickly! Will keep you in my prayers!

  15. Distress Ink – Vintage Photo or Antique Linen will tone that pink down a bit. Stamp on it 🙂

OOoohhh I know, mask the exposed parts off (i.e. fingers, shoulder, etc) and Glimmer Mists….. girl, couple of drinks and we could have some fun :-).

Damn, that totally sucks that you broke your thumb….sending healing vibes & hugs!

  16. Put a little Tea Dye Distress Ink on that thing and it’ll be just fine! Tone it down and then Alter the Heck out of it! Can’t wait to see what you do.
I fell flat in the driveway landing 160 lbs on my left palm 2 days before going to CHA….it STILL hurts and I know I should have someone look at it…maybe your bravery will induce me to do what I know I should do.
    Get better my friend.
    Linda

  17. Will you quit fussing with all the now important stuff and stay in the studio where it’s safe! Now rest up so’s those creative juices will start flowing. That glow in the dark cast will be bodacious “bad” in no time!

  18. Well girlfriend…..Pink??? Umm…..Distress it!! I know you can do it! Just work your “Bad” Magic and make it beautiful!

  19. HOT pink Sherry!! Oh well I know you will find something to do to it!! LOL…….of course what ever you do it will be awesome like everything else you do!! I hope it’s not too painful.

  20. This is so annoying!!! especially if it’s the hand you always use.

Still keep in touch & let us know how things are going xx

  21. Oh, yes, that is bright. I’d have gone for blue. So how much grunge can you adhere to that?

  22. Just think of how much blgging and reading you can do! You can leave so many comments on blogs by exercising the thumb!! Have fun altering the cast!

  23. Good news you won’t have to have surgery, bummer your going to be limited for awhile, hope the thumb starts feeling better soon 🙂

  24. Yea for no surgery, boo for no crafting for awhile! I’ll still be checking your blog everyday as I have for the last 2 years! I can’t wait to see how you alter your cast! It’ll be a doozy, I’m sure. Hope your thumb is better soon.

  25. No surgery is very good news, but I still say ouch! This might be a good time to get out those “found prints” and magazine pages, cut out the details, and make notes on why you saved them. If you can’t remeber, or don’t have a specific idea for some of the pictures (say that cute little monkey you tore out of Nat’l Geo), then add it to your cast! And I love the pink. Give your aunt an extra hug for selecting a great starting color.

  26. I still say you need to dye your hair to match the cast!! I probably would have gone for purple while my middle would have wanted the pink. I can tell you Sept.9th is a great day… my son will be 8!!!

  27. I know who the target of your spinning backhand should be and it ain’t no boards or cement blocks!!! Meanwhile, many of us will be waiting with bated(???) breath for the revealing of your altered cast, which would also then mean that your thumb was feeling better!!! You are such a good sport!!

  28. Oh no Sherry, you poor thing, you’ve been thru it lately, huh?!

    Get well soon!

  29. Oh my! I feel your pain. My youngest broke her arm last year and had three casts in total. Hot pink, blue and purple…

Last year my df screwed up her ankle which required her being in a cast for a bit. She, of course, chose the hot pink. Then glued mohair to the top edge of the cast, then she mod podge beautiful fluer di lea’s (pretty sure that’s spelled wrong and even spell check won’t catch it!) on in black. Last but not least, she glued rhinestones to it… Total Diva…

Have fun w/ your cast, grab your bad crew and have them help. Then you MUST post pictures!!

  30. What a lovely shade of pink 🙂 I’m glad the break is ‘clean’ and I hope you’re not in too much discomfort.

I broke my foot about 8 yrs. ago and I had a navy cast and then a candy cane striped one ~ it was Xmas!

    Can’t wait to see your one-handed alterations ~ Go for it !! !! =)

  31. Sherry, You look great in pink. I am glad to hear *no surgery* and hope that it heals fast and you have no problems with it. I will mark Sept 9th on my calendar. Gotcha!!
Now, go rest and relax and milk this for all it’s worth. Do you have lots of carry out menus to browse for choices? I sure hope so.
    Bevie

  32. Sit down with your feet up, eat some good chocolates in the air conditioning and make sure your husband does a lot of waiting on you! Watch some good movies. Hope you get better soon.

  33. Glad you had someone look at ..never did on my foot years ago.. think I broke it 🙁 pink is good.. make it rainbow coloured! lol
    Hugs x

  34. So happy you don’t need surgery. I would just sit and relax and let other spoil you. Read a good book. My prayers and thoughts are with you for a speed recovery. I can’t wait and see what develops with your cast. Looking forward to the 9th. Be safe. TFS!!! 😀

  35. Oh my gosh. As if you haven’t had enough health stuff going on! At least this is much easier to glam up than your head! Hot pink is bright, but I think you are right, some golden airbrush paint, some zva crystals, a few prima flowers, skull and crossbones — I can see it! Sorry for your misfortune, but glad it is just a cast and nothing more.

  36. Hey……why don’t you cover up the pink with gesso and then you can decorate? Then you could go outside and mask off the rest of your body and stand down wind and give your cast a quick coat of spray sealer. Just an idea……….
