Whoa what a long weekend! Mallory has been home since last Thursday (she left to go back to school today) for Fall break. We’ve run the gamut from family dinners to Grad schools and resumes. She even brought home little projects that she wanted me to make. One was from her roommate but I’ve had to put hers on hold until I get some free time (that is time when I don’t have deadlines looming in front of me).
One of the projects was something I have been promising to make her since school started and we moved her in. The roommates had initials on their doors . . . and Mallory didn’t. She picked up an “M” while out shopping and left it here with me one other weekend she came home. Suffice it to say, this “M” has been sitting in my studio for months . . . and I do mean months. Mallory was adamant that her initial be completed before she left! She even brought home special paper she wanted me to use.
Yesterday, with Mallory helping a bit, we got the “M” done.
This started out as white, but it just HAD to be painted black . . . which was my choice, because the door to her room is white . . . duh! The dots around the “M” were made with Smooch Moonlight Pearlized Accent Ink (because the white paint pen was bone dry). Needless to say, I kept getting my big fat fingers in the dots while fussing with . . . . well just fussing. I put the ribbon on the back first, then the dots and finally the flowers.
The flowers were made with the paper Mallory brought home, DCVW- Donna Eastbrook’s The Color-Ful Life Stack. If there was ever any paper I wouldn’t want to cut into, it’s this stack. Every page was a mini work of art suitable for framing. That’s what Mallory will do with most of the pages, and picked this purple and blue sheet for the flowers. The larger flower was die cut with Spellbinders™ Grand Peony Creations. The leaves are die cut from GrungePaper and painted with Peeled Paint Distress Stain.
The smaller flowers were die cut from Spellbinders Rose Creations. I should say that the back of the paper is white, so the back of each die cut was sponged with Dusty Concord Distress Ink. The center of the small flowers are corsage pins.
Just for the heck of it I Googled for this paper and couldn’t find it, not even on the DCWV site. However, I did find it on the Hobby Lobby site, where I’m pretty sure Mallory bought it. (Pictured with link below.)
