Happy Friday! Graphic 45 is wrapping up the Petaloo Blog Swap today and one of the calendars showcased on the Graphic 45 Blog is my perpetual calendar. There’s lots going on over there, prizes, etc., so if you haven’t popped in yet, you probably should. All the calendars this week have been absolutely spectacular.
Before I show you my calendar, I want to show you how the whole thing started. I knew what type of calendar I wanted to make, but couldn’t find the one I wanted on the internet. After hours and hours of time spent Googling, looking here and there, I finally decided that I needed to make what I wanted. The calendar started out as this pine box.
Well not this exact one, but one I had picked up junk storing one day for just a few bucks. It had been stained in different colors already so it was the perfect box to alter and use.
Here’s the completed calendar.
Now before you ask how can this be . . . . I tore the top off and cut the sides square with a jigsaw, leaving the back (bottom of the box) tall. I didn’t like the squared off look of the sides, so they were then cut at an angle.
In all my trial attempts, I kept trying to work the square blocks (the day) on top of the month blocks (which happen to be some of my girls old building blocks). I knew I needed a shelf (another reason for wanting the perpetual calendar from Walnut Hollow) . . . SO, I used the side of the box I had cut off, and cut it down to fit inside the calendar. A small base was added to the bottom so that the shelf would have something to rest on once it was glued in place. To give it extra support, the shelf was also nailed from the sides and back.
All the wood was painted black and then covered with the new Graphic 45 Collection, Tropical Traveloque. The numbers and letters on the blocks are from the stickers in the collection.
The flowers are from Petaloo and the chipboard leaves are Art Parts from Studio 490.
