Poppy Background Mixed Media Card!

Good morning!  How is everyone?  I can’t believe that a week has flown by and I’ve had very little studio time.   Yesterday I ended up putting Hadlee in her high chair and she joined me in the studio for an hour or so.  It wasn’t long  . . . but it was some inky time!

It’s my day to post on the eP Blog and quite frankly, I wanted to actually work in my Dylusions Art Journal but when I opened the pages I was completely overwhelmed.  Way too much space  . . .  I really think I need to find some art journaling classes to feel more at ease with the process.  I ended up going with a smaller version of what I wanted to do.

You can see more photos and get all the details on the eP Blog.  I hope you’ll join me over there!

Thanks for stopping by here today  . . . and remember, life is short so eat dessert first!

eTeam Picks Challenge–Flowers!

Good morning!  Today it’s my turn to host the eTeam Picks Challenge over on the eP Blog.  Of course, and I know you won’t believe this one . . . I picked FLOWERS!

The eTeam Picks Challenge is held on the third Thursday of each month and each challenge is an opportunity for you to be inspired by one of our eTeam’s creations, to share your work, and to be entered into our challenge prize drawing.

The base of the project is a 6×6 canvas that was painted with Bundled Sage, Broken China and Picket Fence Distress Paints.  Using Studio 490 3 Fresh Flowers Stencil, White Embossing Paste was applied to the canvas.  The petals of the flowers were painted with Victorian Velvet and highlighted with Seedless Preserves Distress Paints.  The stems were painted with Peeled Paint Distress Paint.  To add more highlights, Forest Moss Distress Ink was rubbed over the stems and Dusty Concord over the petals.

For more texture and dimension, over stamping with various Studio 490 background stamps was done in white pigment, Sepia Archival and Royal Purple Stazon.   To finish the canvas, gold leafing splatters were added with a gold leafing pen and canned air.

Love the texture and dimension that the Embossing Paste creates!

The eTeam Picks Challenge is all about inspiration and having fun! During each challenge one of the eTeam members will share a topic, word, technique, sketch, or product that will become the foundation for your creation. This challenge is all about mixing it up and just enjoying the creative process… anything goes! We want to see your work and hear about your inspiration. All of those who play along with our challenge will be entered into a prize drawing for a $15.00 gift certificate to the eclectic Paperie store.

We can’t wait to see your flowers!  Here are a few things to keep in mind for this challenge…

You do not have to use products sold in the eP store…but we do love it when you do.

  • Share a direct link to your creation, not just your blog, using the Linky Tools feature at the end of this post.  If, for any reason, the Linky Tools doesn’t cooperate, please add a link in the Comments section of the blog.
  • When uploading to any online galleries, please use any of the following keywords; eP, eclectic Paperie or eTeam Pick Challenge.  Link your creations to the eP Blog.
  • If you’d like to be considered as one of our featured projects and be entered into our prize drawing, please be sure to add your link no later than midnight EST on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Thanks for stopping by today and if you get the opportunity to get a little crafty . . .  I hope it’s with flowers and you play along with us!

Mixed Media Canvas for the eTeam Challenge!

Wow I can’t believe that this project has been a week in the making!  I did get a little side tracked with appointments, errands and even basketball (go Hoosiers) . . . just couldn’t help myself!

This is a 6×6 mixed media canvas that has been on my mind for some months . . . it just took awhile to get it done.   Because I used cardboard (chipboard) for the heart, it also qualifies for the March eTeam Picks Challenge.  You still have time to participate in the challenge and you can read more about it at the above link.

BelieveCanvas

The word Believe was made with some old alphabet stencils and Black Studio 490 Embossing Paste.    The canvas was painted with my new Distress Paints and the flowers (made from watercolor paper) were colored with Distress Stains.

I ran out of my gold leafing pen while right in the adding the flecks, so I followed up with gold acrylic paint mixed with water.

Mixing Unity and Studio 490!

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend and able to enjoy some gorgeous spring time weather.  I got Hadlee out for her first walk of the year with me and the little shitz’ on Saturday . . . it was fabulous!

As I mentioned the other day, today is my turn to post on the eP Blog!  I really had a great time working on the image for this project.

eP Get Altered Challenge – Fabric!

Happy weekend!  I guess this is better late than never . . . my project for the eclectic Paperie Get Altered Challenge – Fabric.  You still have plenty of time to participate . . . the challenge ends on March 20th.   In a nut shell, the Get Altered Challenge is about exploring your creative journey, about stepping outside of your comfort zone, experimenting with new products, and creating altered and mixed media art.   You can get all the details and read more about Micki’s fabric challenge at the above link.

I’ve had stashed in the closet some old curtain panels that I loved the colors in and wanted to work them into this challenge.  My first thought was flowers of course!

SCheeverFabricCanvasAngle2

Spellbinders™ Blossom Five was used to die cut the striped panel.  Once the layers were die cut, they were soaked in Aleene’s Fabric Stiffener and Draping Liquid.  While still damp they were shaped and left to dry.

The leaves and stem were die cut from a solid green panel using Rose Creations for the leaves and Arched Windows One for the stem.  They received the same treatment with the Fabric Stiffener.

I love the dimension that using the Fabric Stiffener created.

SCheeverFabricCanvasSide

The canvas itself was painted with combinations of Claudine Hellmuth Studio Acrylics in Sky Blue, Blank Canvas, Landscape Green and Classic Teal.  I thought I had more colors but unfortunately not, so I added some DecoArt Americana Purple Cow, Bahama Blue and Pineapple.  Once the canvas had dried, splatters of Krylon 18kt Gold Leafing Pen were added with an ink spritzer.

I knew when I picked the colors for the canvas that Mallory was going to love it.  They basically are the colors of the décor in her room.  She suggested adding a quote and came up with the one used.  I typed it up on the computer, trimmed it out and attached it to the canvas with Scor-Tape.

I left this canvas clean and when I showed it to Mallory she suggested adding some more color around the words and to the leaves.

A blue/green was added around the words from PanPastels Mixed Media 1 Collection.  Forest Moss Distress Ink was added to the leaves and then everything was misted with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls and water.

That’s all for me right now!  I’ll be back on Monday with a project for the eP Blog.  Until then, have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
