Chipboard, Graphic 45 and eP!

Morning everyone!  Boy have I been rather lax posting on the old blog of late.  First let me say that I have been working . . . just on projects I can’t share yet, and of course I’ve had to set a little bit of time aside to visit with Hadlee every whip stitch.

I do have a project for you today, but to get all the details, more pictures, blah blah blah, you’ll need to hop on over to the eP Blog to have a look see.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not, but I finally got eP to carry chipboard!  WOO HOO!!!!!!!  It’s not like I don’t use it or anything . . . .  [you can find the link down below in the project supply list].

Oh and have you see this!

Halloween Jack!

Happy Weekend!  It’s been a little crazy around here this week . . . with projects I can’t show you yet.  Don’t you just hate it when I say something like that?  We’ve got another baby shower tomorrow . . . I can’t wait to see all the cute baby things!  Little girls clothes are just the cutest . . .

I worked up a couple of Halloween cards today, the first one cutesy and the second one grungy!  I’m showing you the second one today because I like it better than the first and actually made this one to replace the cutesy one.  Mallory likes the cutesy one (she says its different than my normal work), so I’ll probably show that one to you next week.

I had in mind to work with the Quietfire Designs Halloween! Wicked Collection, and for some reason I pulled out the Graphic 45 Magic of Oz Collection to go with.  Hmmmmm maybe it has something to do with Wicked . . .

sCheeverQuietfireImmortalSept2012(4)

Jack was stamped in Archival Jet Black on watercolor paper and then water colored with Faded Jeans, Scattered Twigs and Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink.  I made a mask of Jack with Eclipse Tape, and then stamped over the image with a sentiment from the Quietfire set in Sepia Archival.

Once the image had been die cut/embossed with Spellbinders Ovals, it was sponged with Antique Linen and just a hint of Vintage Photo around the outer edge.  The ghost paper behind Jack was die cut with Spellbinders Grand Square, placed on an angle.

The seam binding was dyed with the same ink used to watercolor with . . . with a smidgen of Black Soot added.  All the edges of the paper were distressed with my favorite distressing tool, my scissors!

Well, I guess that’s all for me!  Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, enjoy the adventures that come your way!

Color Throwdown #210!

SCheever210Banner

Wow this past week has flown by and here I am, already into my third week of The Color Throwdown for the month.   This week’s colors are some of my favorite . . .

CTD210 swatch

Here’s my project for the week, using an image from Hampton Art, Hydrangea Collage.  It was stamped in Archival Coffee on hot press watercolor paper and water colored with a light wash of Bermuda Bay Ink.

SCheever210

The butterfly was water colored with Wild Honey, the stem in Shabby Shutters and a light wash of Antique Linen was applied to the background.   Based on the square around the image, I knew I wanted to die cut around some of the petals.

SCheever210Image

I trimmed in around the petals out to the edge of the border, and inserted the paper in the Spellbinders™ Square Die with the trimmed area on the outside of the die.  The edges of the image panel were then sponged with Antique Linen, hitting the shaded areas a little darker than the rest.  The panels behind the image are Certainly Celery, Bermuda Bay and Chocolate Chip.

Heck I even died my seam binding Bermuda Bay to match the ink and paper.

Don’t forget to visit the Color Throwdown Blog and the other Designers:

That’s all for me today . . . I’m off to finish up a Halloween project for Quietfire (which you’ll get to see tomorrow)!

Thanks for stopping by!

Layered and Framed!

Good Wednesday morning!  Geeze there were a lot of great comments on yesterday’s post.  I hope some of you leaving comments are going to play along with your own Zentangles and link them up!  I’m way too excited about seeing what you are doing with your tangling.

During my morning blog browsing on Monday, I was quite drawn in by the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge for the week . . . Layered!  I was also very inspired by one the projects posted by the team . . . the frame by Terry. I kept looking at it, the depth of the frame and was wondering what she had used to make it.    The more I looked at it, the more inspired I became . . .

SO yesterday I ran down to the studio and pulled out some printers chipboard and my Square Nestabilities®.    My final project ended up being this frame.

ARTFrame

While I was working I decided to take pictures to show you how I went from single sheets of chipboard to the completed frame.

My first instinct was to make my frame from the ground up, so I pulled out my Square Nestabilities.  The first layer is two pieces of chipboard die cut with the larger die you see below.  The shape below is for the middle section, which was die cut only once.  Sadly I didn’t get a picture of it, but the top section was die cut with the same largest square and then two steps down still in the Grand Square family.

ARTFrameDieSetForInside

Below is what all three layers looked like after die cutting, a little gold paint added to the edges, and before paper.

ARTFrameUncoveredUnassembled

My vision was to have the layers deep so that there would be some dimension to the frame.  However, I didn’t want open sides that you could see through so I knew I needed to build up the back of the second layer.  When I started die cutting more layer to add, I was having problems getting everything lined up correctly and NOT thinking straight, I decided to start building up the back with strips of the chipboard.  Sadly I ended up trimming away the excess and if I HAD thought, I could have still layered the die cut versions and then trimmed that excess away.  It would have been more timely and less cutting.  LESSON LEARNED and something I want you to remember . . .

Because I was working with chipboard, I used the Sookwang Scor-Tape to stick all the layers together.  You can see  by the lines in the chipboard where I was building up the bottom layers.  I think there are 6 in all and I would alternate the cuts to make the piece stronger.

This is the front before I added all the tape and the Graphic 45 papers.  I would use the mat knife for trimming on the glass surface . . . went way fast and super easy!

Here you can see all the layers with paper attached before they had all been assembled.

Thought it would be fun if I showed you the scrunchy new flowers I’ve been making.  They were die cut with the new Spellbinders™ die template S4-370 Blossom Five.  The edges were sponged with Mix’d Media Inx Jasmine, misted with water and then squeezed and scrunched to form the shape.   I heat set them to not only dry them, but to also help keep the shape.

These are the flowers on the bottom left.  The embellishments are white corsage pins that were colored with Alcohol Inks.

This is a close-up of the a flourish die cut from chipboard with the new Spellbinders release S5-118 Venetian Accents.  The flourishes were painted with Antique White acrylic paint, covered with Glossy Accents and then sprinkled with Vintage Glass Glitter Diamond Dust Fine.

ARTFrameGlitter

The sentiment, Art Soul from Hampton Art, was stamped in Coffee Archival on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White with Labels Twelve, stenciled with Antique Linen and Bundled Sage Distress Inks.    The sentiment was then mounted on a piece of chipboard also die cut with Labels Twelve then raised with dimensional foam squares.

At this angle you can see all the dimension and layers.

That’s all for today!  Thanks for stopping by.

Old Chalkboard Brought Back to Life!

Happy Thursday!  Boy this week has flown by and I haven’t even realized it.  I haven’t felt too great since the doctor on Monday . . . my throat is still somewhat sore and by the time I take enough ibuprofen to help, I’m a little sleepy.

Here’s what has happened.  I had an extra uvula kind of.  There was something hanging down next to my uvula and they cut it out.  I’m still waiting for biopsy results, and once I hear something I’ll know what else is going to happen.  I’ve had this thing for sooooo many years that it truly can’t be anything and I’m not even concerned.

So now that the grossness is over, let’s talk about the second Graphic 45 project I had this week.  If you visited the Graphic 45 Blog, you’ve already seen it . . . but for those of you who have waited . . .

A matching chalkboard to the bulletin board.

Metal and paper flowers to match the bulletin board, with a few variations.

and another of my favorite sentiments from Wendy Vecchi and Studio 490.

Of course, we still have the glove, but this time the twine keeps the chalk close by.

The instructions are exactly like the ones in the video that I posted the other day.

Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, embrace the adventures of the day!
