The Black Cat!

Smiley from millan.net I can’t believe it’s Friday already!  I don’t have any big plans for the weekend and if the weather is still blechy here I’m hoping to be in the studio!  So far it looks pretty promising  . . . but I am a little tired of the rain.

Yesterday when I was writing my post I told you I got a little sidetracked.  I found the most awesome site for Edgar Allan Poe . . . PoeStories.com.  If you are a fan like I am, this is the site for you.  I’ve been able to re-read stories I read as a child and refresh my memory on a lot of his works.

The reason I was searching yesterday was because I wanted a copy of The Black Cat.  Of course, I needed it for a card  . . .

The Black Cat

I printed it off after I changed up some fonts and then distressed it with Old Paper Distress Ink.  The tag was made with the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique using Weathered Wood, Vintage Photo and Spiced Marmalade.  The grunge board flourishes were covered with Spiced Marmalade Distress Stickles and the numbers with Rock Candy.  The cat was embossed with Black Soot Distress embossing powder.

That’s it for today!  I hope you have a good one and thanks for stopping by!

Flourishes Limelight Week 4!

Good morning!  Today is the last post I’ve made on the Flourishes Newsletter as the June Flourishes Limelight Designer.  Today I covered the Faux Bleach Technique on the Flourishes Newsletter.

For this week’s post, I worked with both the Home Tweet Home and Birds in Vines sets. My first card uses Home Tweet Home.

The image was colored with Tombow Markers and I used the new Spellbinders S4-218 Lattice Borderabilities for the border along the bottom.

To show examples of the Faux Bleach Technique, I used Birds in Vines and airbrushed over the embossed image with Copic Markers.

and the embossing ironed off as a second background:

Wacky Wednesday #17!

Good morning!  Smiley from millan.net Hope y’all have had a good week so far.  It seems like I’ve been busy, but I’m not getting much accomplished.  Oh well, maybe it’s just meant to be . . . me spinning my wheels (only it’s not in a convertible)! Smiley from millan.net   I really think it’s more like this . . . Smiley from millan.net but I’ve lost the paddle!

Today is Rubbernecker Stamps WACKY WEDNESDAY #17, and Shelly is our hostess today.  She’s given us a simple challenge, incorporate a tag on your card.  Easy peasy!  You can check out more about the challenge and how to win a 40% off coupon from Rubbernecker Stamps on the Rubbernecker Blog.

My card today was a fun one to make.  I’ve been trying different papers with the Wrinkle Free Distress technique, and have absolutely fallen in love with the results I get when using watercolor paper.  No kidding!  Watercolor paper!  Try it sometime, it is fabulous.

468FlowerSilhouettesJune24

The background is watercolor paper that I’ve made using the Wrinkle Free Distress technique and Broken China, Dusty Concord and Peeled Paint Distress Inks.  The background for the new 468 Flower Silhouettes (released by Rubbernecker tomorrow) was made the same way but with Broken China, Shabby Shutters and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  It’s also on a small manila shipping tag instead of watercolor paper.  Can you see the difference?  The flower image was colored with Tombow Markers, misted with water, and then stamped on the tag.  One of my very favorite techniques of all time!

  • Stamps:  468 Flower Silhouettes from Rubbernecker Stamps
  • Paper:  Strathmore Watercolor Paper; Prism Spring Willow Dark and Frosted Teal; Manila Shipping Tag
  • Ink:  Ranger Archival Jet Black and Vintage Photo, Shabby Shutters, Broken China, Dusty Concord and Peeled Paint Distress
  • Accessories:  Spellbinders Petite 5-1/2” Deckled Scalloped Borderabilities, Small and Large Classic and Scalloped Petite Oval Nestabilities; Ranger Mini Mister, Non-Stick Craft Sheet, Matte Accents; May Arts Ribbon; Venture Foam Tape; Tsukineko Sponge Dauber; Brads

Come play along in the WACKY WEDNESDAY Challenge this week . . . who knows, you might win a coupon worth 40% off your entire order at Rubbernecker Stamps.  The Red-Hot Mommas will be on the stroll tomorrow too, when we release 2 new sets and one new background!

CHECK OUT THE NEW RUBBERNECKER RELEASES and STROLL ALONG WITH US!

Today Rubbernecker Stamps releases 5 new sets!  To celebrate this release, we invite you to Blog Stroll along with the Rubbernecker Red-Hot Mommas.  The Stroll begins at the Rubbernecker Stamps Blog where you will find the guidelines on how to win one of the four sets being given away during this release.  If you haven’t started at the Rubbernecker Blog, you should go there as soon as possible. That’s where you’ll find the first clue to begin your Stroll and where the key words for the phrase actually starts.  I’ve noticed that some of you don’t start at the Rubbernecker Blog and then leave out part of the words in the phrase you submit.   Sorry y’all but I can’t count those in the drawing for prizes.

I’m very excited about these images and find that they are so versatile.  They can stand alone or be combined to make scenes, collages . . . really, anything you desire to make!  Remember this card?

WRINGLE FREE DISTRESS FINISHED CARD

I used the Butterfly and Flourish Inchies being released today, along with the large Flourish and Floral Silhouettes released earlier.  Pretty sneaky huh?

For today’s card I’m using the new Diva Inchies.  If you like shoes, purses or hats, you’re gonna LOVE this set!  There’s a little BAD humor in today’s card . . . . let’s see if you can put it all together!  Actually, let’s put it together with today’s Blog Stroll.  When you leave your comment to be considered for one of the 4 free stamp sets today, tell me what you would call this card.  I won’t tell you yet what I had in mind  . . . I want to know if you can see it and/or guess it.

DivaInchiesMaeWestMay28

This card actually started out as a card for this week’s WACKY WEDNESDAY Challenge, but then I had another brainstorm (yes, you know it hurt) and had to move on to that idea.  The images were stamped, die cut and embossed to be Inchies, and then they were placed on a layer of pink cardstock.  The pink layer was die cut with the Spellbinders rectangle that I die cut out the middle of the black cardstock.  It fit together beautifully and made its own frame.  The background panel was stamped with Rubbernecker’s new Flourish set.  I found the sentiment in among my Rubbernecker stamps, but because it was rather large for what I wanted, I generated it with the computer to fit my Spellbinders tag.

  • Stamps:  422 Diva Inchies and 463 Flourish Set from Rubbernecker Stamps
  • Paper:  Neenah Classic Crest Solar White; SU Pink Pirouette and Basic Black
  • Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; SU Pink Pirouette
  • Accessories:  Spellbinders Classic Square and Long Classic/Scalloped Rectangle Nestabilities, and Tags 5 Shapeabilities; Copic Markers;  Ranger Matte Accents; Doodlebug Designs Lily White Jewels; May Arts Ribbon; Computer; Venture Foam Tape

The Blog Stroll ends with me and my clue in the phrase is:  Inchies Along!  I hope you’ve started at the Rubbernecker Blog, followed the instructions for the hop - visited all the other blogs, left comments, and have found all the phrase clues.

To win one of the newly released sets (or any of the other new releases since April 1), all you have to do is leave me a comment, and then email the phrase (with the correct subject line and your mailing address) that you found on the stroll to me at scheever@insightbb.com.   The Blog Stroll will end at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 28, and the winners will be announced on the Rubbernecker Blog!

I hope you enjoyed the stroll and thanks for stopping at the BAD Side for awhile.

Wrinkle-Free Distress!

Smiley from millan.net  Happy Thursday!  A few months ago, Beate from Splitcoaststampers asked me to write a tutorial on that “inky thing I do.”  It was published yesterday on Splitcoaststampers and can be found under the Resources section as “Wrinkle-Free Distress.”  I contacted Tim Holtz and asked his permission to recreate the tutorial for SCS, and what he actually called this technique . . . I didn’t want to get it wrong!

Here’s the card I created as my sample for the tutorial.

wringle-free-distress-finished-card.jpg

Instead of letting the tag stand alone, I decided to incorporate it into a card.  Once I had finished the tag, and had the layout for the card, I stamped the flourish images on both the card front and the tag.  I lined the flourishes up, and raised the tag with mounting tape.  Some of the images on the card, i.e., the butterflies and small flourishes are a sneak peek of what’s coming next from Rubbernecker Stamps.

  • Stamps: 427 Butterfly Inchies, 467 Floral Silhouette, 461 Scraps & Scuffs, 436 Flourish and 423 Flourish Inchies from Rubbernecker Stamps
Paper: Manila Shipping Tag and Prism Herbal Garden Dark and Medium
    Ink:
Ranger Archival Jet Black, Adirondack Snow Cap Pigment, and Broken China, Vintage Photo, Peeled Paint, Antique Linen, Spiced Marmalade, Black Soot and Faded Jeans Distress
    Accessories:
Ranger Non-Stick Craft Sheet, Glossy Accents, Mini Mister, Cut-n-Dry Stamp Pad Felt; Venture Foam Tape; May Arts Ribbon; Copic At You Red Spica; DMC Embroidery Floss; Brads; Oval Punch; Candle Lighter
    All product and images from
    Rubbernecker Stamps

I hope you try this technique and have as much fun with it as I do!  Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
