Mixed Media Cards!

Good Tuesday morning!  I’ve got one more Wendy Vecchi inspired card today.  I can’t say that this is going to be my last one  . . . because I’m having way too much fun making these!  I’m absolutely relishing the fact that I finished 3 cards yesterday and typically it takes me close to 2 days to finish a project anymore.    I even like the idea that they are completely flat and easy to mail . . . AND THE BEST PART . . . they are still mixed media!

That’s it . . . mixed media on a mini canvas . . .  easy peasy lemony squeezy!

Plus because I’ve been using Spellbinders™ Matting Basics Die Templates for die cutting the paper I’m working on, then using another for the card base, all the guess work is taken away.  I’m telling you . . . . a quick (less than 10 minute die cutting) card!  For my stenciling I’m taping down the die template to the paper and using a stencil brush to add the ink . . . it can’t get any easier!

While waiting for Kate to pick up Hadlee today the idea for this one came to me.  Well actually, I was napping and Mallory was messing with Hadlee . . . the flowers (Inspired by Nature) and some of the background stamping (Sanded Background) are old SU favorites that I keep hanging onto.  The sentiment “Thanks” is from Quietfire Design – Thank You (set of 4), and was stamped in Archival Jet Black.

Once again I used Broken China, Bundled Sage and Wild Honey Distress Paint for the background.  The flower stamp was colored with Tombow Markers and when I misted the stamp, I accidentally picked up my Mini Mister filled with Copper Perfect Pearls  . . .  so, I had to add some copper splatters from my Krylon pen.  The heart was stenciled with both Bundled Sage and Tumbled Glass.

That’s all for me today.  Thanks for stopping by!

Studio 490 Wildflowers!

Good morning!  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  It finally cooled down here and was quite pleasant outside Saturday . . . actually it was down right excellent weather!  It was so gorgeous that I snuck out for a while and went to some friends Buffett Party . . . where there was great music by Lunar Beach House, plenty of eats and cute little bottles of Land Shark Lager!  I hadn’t been to one of the Buffett parties for 8 years, so I decided I needed to do something for “ME” and off I went . . . had a grand time!

Yesterday I spent the better part of the day in the studio!  It was great to finally get a little ink on my fingers.  I was lucky enough to be one of the blog winners on Wendy Vecchi’s blog a few weeks ago and yesterday I finally put ink to stamp.

Studio490WildflowerCard

I inked the coneflower from the Wildflower Art set, with Peeled Paint, Dusty Concord and Brushed Corduroy Distress Markers, misted with water and then stamped on damp watercolor paper.  Without re-inking the stamp, I did a second stamp just slightly lower and to the left of the original.  Using a water brush, I pulled the ink from the markers into the open areas of the image.

The background stamp from Live and Mark Art was inked with Antique Linen and then stamped over the flower images.    The image was die cut with Spellbinders™ Labels One, stenciled with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, then the edges were sponged with Antique Linen.

Even though Wendy sent me the Art Parts that go with this set, I thought it would be fun to show her images in a different way that how she typically designs with them.   I think it helps sometimes to see something in a different light just in case you don’t have some of the supplies that are often used together.  Now the next time, I’ll probably use the coordinating Art Parts.

The seam binding was dyed with Dusty Concord to match the purple in the coneflower.

That’s all I have for today.  Tomorrow is tangle day and then later in the week I’ve got some exciting news to share . . .

Sunday Stamping at Inky Antics!

Happy weekend!  It sure seems the past week flew by, and I didn’t get much accomplished at all.  Mallory has been home all week and will be going back to school today . . . feeling a little better than when she came home a week ago, but not by much.  It’s just one of those things she’s going to have to endure until all passes Smiley from millan.net

Over the last few days I have been able to get all my class samples made, write ups done, and supplies ordered.  While I’m waiting on most of the supplies to come in, I’ve been able to pre-paint some of the smaller stuff that’s going to be used.  As soon as I see that the classes are up and open for registration, I’ll let you know.

Today on the Inky Antics Rubber Stamps Blog, Jackie has posted another of my cards.

I really like the colors of this one and found the perfect papers to match.

If you hop over to this post, you can read more about the card and more of my interview with Jackie!

Purple Coneflowers are my Favorite!

Good Saturday morning!  WOW I can’t believe that this past week flew by like it did.  That E-Team hop yesterday sort of snuck up on me . . . and I knew that it was going to happen on the 30th . . . it just got here before I realized it.

There’s a big scrapbooking show over in Louisville at the Fair & Exposition Center this weekend that I’m going to try and attend this morning.  I was supposed to go yesterday, but after the gym, lunch with mom, a visit to Katie . . . well the day was over before I knew it.  PLUS, I was thinking about the $8 parking fee, the $10 entrance fee to the show, the afternoon Friday traffic, the $4.15+ (because I use premium) per gallon gas . . . it wasn’t too hard not to drive over the bridge yesterday.  Of course, I wouldn’t even know about this show, Creating Keepsake Convention, but I saw something on a company’s website.  There hasn’t been advertising here in the papers . . . only on the marque as you drive around the interstate at the Fairgrounds.    Okay, so the more I type about it the less I feel like I want to go over . . . who knows . . . but I do know that Gary Burlin is going to be there and I’m still looking for class supplies.  This is definitely not Stampaway but it could be fun nonetheless.  SO if you are in the area and you’re going to the show . . .  maybe I’ll see you there!

In the meantime, I want to share a card with your that I did a couple of weeks ago.  I wasn’t planning on sharing it with anyone . . . but what the heck!

It was during the week that I was playing with my new Distress Markers when I made this.

PurpleBlush

The image was stamped on watercolor paper with Dusty Concord, Peeled Paint and Brushed Corduroy markers.   I used an old background stamp and lightly stamped over the image with Antique Linen ink.

I wasn’t too sure what my layout was going to be, so I made my background paper using Wrinkle Free Distress and watercolor paper.  The inks used were Dusty Concord, Tumbled Glass and Peeled Paint.  The base of the card was die cut with Spellbinders Grand Labels Eleven.  The ends were scored to create flaps and the over-stamping (with the same old background) was done in Dusty Concord ink.  The seam binding was dyed with Tumbled Glass.

Oh and by the way, the flower is one of my all time favorites that I’ve had forever and a day . . . Penny Black Blush.  I went searching for it while writing this post and found it at Simon Says Stamp in wood mount!  Way cool!

Here’s a close up of the background, along with all the layers behind the image.

I suppose that’s all for me right now.  Thanks for stopping by and remember . . . life is short, make the most of the adventures that come your way today!
