Happy Saturday! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying your weekend so far. I finally made it down to the studio this morning and am busy working away. I’m leaving for Texas this coming week, and I’m trying to get some projects done before I go. I’ve taken a short break because I want to share one card with you today.

I finally got around to doing this week’s Color and Sketch Challenges on Splitcoaststampers. I’ve had this idea in mind ever since I saw the Color Challenge on Tuesday, but other things had to take precedent. It also didn’t hurt that I could utilize the Sketch Challenge with my idea.

The images were colored with Copic Markers and then punched with a one inch square punch. The background panels were stamped with the plaid image from the set. The sentiment was die cut with Spellbinders Shapeabilities Tags. Can you find the subtle humor in the card?

Happy Friday! I have some exciting (well I think it is exciting) new today. Yesterday Rubbernecker started a company blog! Can you see me jumping up and down? Because I worked all day yesterday on the blog and other matters, I didn’t have time to stamp. I started down to the studio this morning when my phone rang. Kate was having car problems – MOM to the RESCUE! See, they still need us even when they think they don’t!

I was intrigued by the Limited Supply Challenge on Splitcoast today, and needed to play along. The object of today’s challenge to create a card using a technique with only paper, ink and stamps. I took that to mean no acrylic paint, embossing powders, fancy sprays, etc. – just ink! To make things even more interesting, while having my daily blog fix this morning, I saw Beate’s weekend sketch challenge. I’ve never played along in Beate’s challenges and today just decided I needed a little fun.

Anyhoo, here’s my card today.

I decided to make the larger panel in Beate’s sketch the image panel, even though Beate used designer paper in this area and she also made the small panel her image. Brilliant actually! To make the background, I took out my Ranger craft sheet and down the center I swiped three ink colors directly from the pad, Mustard Seed, Broken China and Fired Brick. I then misted the ink swipes with water until beads started to form on the craft sheet. Taking my piece of white paper, I laid the paper down in the middle of the ink and picked it right back up. I then dried the paper with a heat tool. This step was repeated until I had picked up most of the ink from the craft sheet. It is important however to the paper dry between adding layers. This adds interest to the background. By the way, the sentiment panel was created the same way. After creating the background, the images were stamped and more color was added to the edges using a blending tool. For more interest I distressed the edges, and then stitched the panel to the actual card base.

Happy Wednesday! What a night I had last night. I went with my mother, aunt and one of my aunt’s friends to see “Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming.” It’s the story of The Sanders Family coming back to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church a few months after VJ Day. Of course, it was a musical and all the songs were “old-time” gospel. It reminded me of when I was a little girl staying with my great-aunt and she would take me to revivals at her little country church. Spending time with family and friends – good times!

Now my stamping this morning has nothing to do with the show last night. However, you could imagine Mrs. Shenk as a member of the Amen Corner if you so wish. My card is actually for today’s Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge . . . AND . . . needless to say, the humor bug bit me. Let me introduce you to Mrs. Shenk. I believe she wants to be a close friend of Mindy, who you met yesterday!

Here is what I think is funny about this card . . . some subtle humor. I ran the background panel through the Wizard, with the Friends Cuttlebug Embossing Folder. Now look again at the sentiment . . . Boo Frickity Hoo. The whole point of the card is friendship, being silly, laughing, giggling, everything you would do with your girl friends, and here we have cranky Mrs. Shenk going Boo Frickity Hoo! Once again, I slay myself!

It’s afternoon, the start of a long Holiday weekend. Mallory will be home early evening with all her laundry. That means I need to get mine finished up this afternoon so that the laundry room isn’t too big a mess. I’ve only been trying to get it done all week. Ah well, the best intentions often go astray . . . especially if one suffers from CRS! I know when I started writing this post that I actually had a point. What it was, I don’t remember. Here’s what happened . . . open Word Perfect, start typing; let dogs out; reheat something for lunch; get email about Labor Day Sale; think about post; let dogs in; get lunch from the microwave; oops cokes in the garage – go get them; get paper while in the garage in case there is a sale ad; stare at computer screen; fight the little shitz’ off my lap while eating; think about this post; clean dishes; stare at computer screen some more; check paper, no ad; stare at computer screen and realize . . . what the hell am I doing? I don’t remember! There you have it . . . CRS!

I know there is a card somewhere in here, because it has only taken me 2 days to finish one. Yesterday’s Ways to Use it Challenge was to use colored pencils. Great challenge! I haven’t used them in so long and was looking forward to it. I colored an image, made a card – hated it, threw it in the garbage. Started a second image and it just wasn’t working for me either. Into the garbage it went. Last night after dinner I gave it another try. The image worked but I left it and said enough for one day. This morning, when I checked on today’s Limited Supply Challenge, I knew that I could finish my card today. So, here is my card – three challenges rolled into one! This week’s SCS Sketch (layout was something borrowed), Ways to Use It (using colored pencils) and Limited Supply Challenge (something new, something old, something borrowed, something blue).

My something new: stamps from Whipper Snapper and paper from StarLitStudio. Something borrowed: the SCS sketch from this week. Something old: Textile CB Embossing folder and Prismacolor Colored Pencils. Something blue: the little butterfly in the image.

One more card from me! This is for today’s SCS Sketch Challenge. I love this sketch and especially liked being able to use a little tag on the card. For the tag itself, I used the Color Wash Faux Bleach technique. I learned this technique in the Ranger class I took at Summer CHA, and just went looking for a tutorial for you. I may have overlooked it, but I didn’t see one, so I’ll try to explain the best I can.

I picked a medium size white tag to start. The image was stamped on the tag in VersaMark and then embossed with clear EP. Now the next step is the messy part, so I always prepare my work surface first. I preheat the iron, lay down a few layers of paper towel and grab a sheet of printer paper which is folded in half. At another table is where I spray the Color Wash. I have an old box with the top flaps folded up that I place a few more layers of paper towel in the bottom of. I place my embossed image on the paper towel and then spray with the Color Wash. The box keeps the Color Wash from going all over the place and the paper towel soaks up the mist on the bottom of the box. Because your paper is very wet and runny, pick it up with the paper towels and carefully take it to your printer paper. Remove it from the messy and wet paper towel and play it on your printer paper, making a sandwich fold the other end of the printer paper over the now Color Washed image. Carefully iron the top of the printer paper until you see the embossed image come through the paper. That’s when you know that the EP has melted and the printer paper has picked it up. You’re done! Now you can embellish and stamp on the image to your heart’s desire. For this one, I distressed the edges, sponged on some Vintage Photo ink and stamped a sentiment.

My background paper is BasicGrey Scarlet’s Letter, which I sponged the edges on and then stitched to the front of my card. The tag was raised with foam mounting tape after I tied the ribbon and added my hardware.
