Good morning! This was going to be the day that I would being the videos. What I’m thinking is actually babbling in a video. Then I will have my card and the necessary deets. That way for people who truly aren’t interested they can skip the video. This has been in the works for a month or so now but I have yet to get it done. I didn’t write about this project last night when I finished, well because . . . I wanted to do the video. Alas, I got out of bed this morning with a headache and today is probably not the day to start. I did promise a reader however, that I would do a video tutorial on the fragment tag I used on my Wacky Wednesday card. It will be coming real soon!

A number of months ago, I truly can’t remember how long . . . maybe 4 or 5, I was at Target shopping. I found in the Dollar Spot a package of 3 unfinished wood frames that some how jumped into my cart. I had an idea of what I wanted to do with them, but unfortunately time has not been on my side.

You know that project I was talking about yesterday? The one I had to let dry, blah blah blah? Well, it is one of these frames. It’s funny how I was working on a frame and then yesterday’s Splitcoast Ways to Use It Challenge was for frames. I just had to finish the frame last night.

The frame is fairly close to what I had imagined. This one is a practice piece, as I have an idea for my mother and her colors are definitely NOT green, orange and blue. This one will hang in my studio which does have blue and green accents. Now that I have general premise down, I can move on to the one for my mother.

The unfinished frame was painted with acrylic paint and once that was dry, a layer of Distress Crackle Paint was applied over the acrylic paint. After the Crackle Paint had dried, the edges and various places on the frame were sanded to appear worm and handled. The flower embellishment is made with Grunge Paper. The leaves were stamped, inked and then cut out. The layers for the flower were die cut with Spellbinders Daisy Heads Shapeabilities, inked and then over stamped with Rubbernecker’s Loose Weave Background. For the panel inside the frame, that “Inky Thing I Do” was done with Antique Linen, Spiced Marmalade and Broken China. Those colors were used because the flowers were inked with Spiced Marmalade and Broken China. The sentiment was stamped in Ranger Archival Coffee.

Happy Thursday! I’ve had such a productive morning and I sure hope it keeps me going the rest of the day. My new coffee pot (my sister gave me a Bunn for my birthday) was not flowing well this morning. This darn hard water here had already caused some problems. I found the little tool to clean the coffee maker, and went to it . . . works like a charm now. I did learn that you should always check the sprayhead first, little bits of calcium build up in there clogging the water flow and that truly was the whole problem.

While I was waiting for the coffee maker to cool down, I did check in on today’s Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use it Challenge. It’s a fun one today – use pearls (any type of pearls, i.e., Pearl Ex, Perfect Pearls, Liquid Pearls, Pearl stickers, Pearl brads). Well, I have every color of Ranger Liquid Pearls – WOO HOO!

I received a few days ago some new stamps from my friends over at Our Craft Lounge and have been wanting all week to work with them. Today is my chance!

I used the cupcake from Life is Sweet and colored it with Copic Markers. I used Circle Nestabilities for the background for the cupcake and used the Scalloped Long Rectangle to cut the scalloped edge along the bottom of the cross piece. For my pearls, I decorated all the scallops with a drop of White Opal Liquid Pearls.

Using Watercolor Paper!

Happy Thursday! I have Stamp Club here Saturday afternoon, and I’m trying to come up with ideas. Because my mother is attending this month, and bringing a friend, I feel the pressure to make club special. Now my mother is NOT a stamper! I’ve tried to get her interested over the years and feel it is something she would enjoy. She’s quite artistic and has an excellent eye. Her friend she is bringing, IS a stamper. She normally attends a stamp club somewhere else. After seeing some of my cards that I’ve given mom, she has decided she wants to learn some of the things that I do. No pressure there . . . .

I have had one idea in mind, and then when I saw the Ways to Use It Challenge on Splitcoast this morning, I knew exactly what one of my projects would be. The challenge today is to use watercolor paper. Now if you know me, and have followed my stamping for a while, you know that one of my favorite techniques is stamping on wet watercolor paper. I may have bit off a bit more than I (or they) can chew, but hey . . . they are experienced stampers (well, except Mom).

Anyhoo, here’s the card that I will use as a sample for their project. I will give them some leeway, like the sewing and maybe the initial background. Those items will be their option.

Starting with my watercolor paper, craft sheet and Distress Inks, I created a background for the stamping. I swiped a line of Broken China, Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed down my craft sheet, misted the ink with water, and then laid my paper into the ink mixture. To dry the first layer of color I used my craft iron and ironed over the watercolor paper. I continued this process until I had the desired color I wanted for the background. Because I would be using more water, SU En Francais was stamped in Ranger Archival Coffee. The stamps from Inspired by Nature were then inked, misted with water and stamped on of everything else. I misted the grass a tiny bit to make it appear more in the background before I stamped the flowers. For the finishing touch to this layer, I scored 1″ lines on the back of the panel and then highlighted the score lines and the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

The sentiment was stamped on watercolor paper that I had inked with Broken China Distress Ink. The sentiment was then die cut using Petite Oval Nestabilities (the detail of the embossing on the watercolor paper is amazing). A Tim Holtz Trinket Pin was slipped through the sentiment to hold my bow.

Happy Friday! It’s rainy here today with a nip in the air – a perfect day to spend indoors stamping. I haven’t done a Splitcoaststampers Challenge in what seems like weeks. Actually it probably has been weeks with my traveling and all. I’ve checked in on them every day this week, but the mojo has failed me.

All week long, the challenges have been in honor and celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They have gone PINK! Since this is a cause near and dear to me, I couldn’t let another day go by without participating.

I think this is the first time that I have combined more than two challenges into one card. Today, I’ve combined four: the Color Challenge to use Pink Pirouette, Kiwi Kiss and Chocolate Chip; the Sketch Challenge; the Ways to Use it Challenge to use just one word; and today’s Limited Supply Challenge to use leaves.

A few months ago I went to Cincinnati Stampaway with some friends, and bought a few of the new Studio 490 sets. I met the designer, Wendy Vecchi, at Winter CHA and was in total awe of her designs. I was so excited at Summer CHA to see that she had released sets incorporating her unique style with chipboard and grunge board. Today I finally broke them in and put a little ink on them!

Let’s start with the Grunge Board leaves and flowers first. I stamped the images on the Grunge Board, cut them out, and then inked the leaves with Kiwi Kiss and the flowers with Worn Lipstick. An idea-ology Hitch Fastener holds the petals of the flower together. The background papers started as white. To give them color, I swiped both Pink Pirouette and Worn Lipstick on my Ranger Craft Sheet, misted the ink with water and laid my paper in the ink to pick up the color. Using a craft iron, I ironed over the paper to dry it. This process was continued to keep adding layers of color to the white paper. The sentiment, dream, was part of a phrase that I masked, inking only the one word to stamp on the third panel.

Good afternoon! Yes, I’m running a little behind this morning. Miss Ellie needed to go to the vet this morning for her annual check up. She was happy to go for a car ride, but none too happy with me when we arrived at the vets’ office. I don’t think she’ll come running the next time I shout “car ride – let’s go.”

When I got back from my “little errand,” I checked out the Ways to Use it Challenge on Splitcoast. I’ve tried to get to the challenges all week, and I did get to the Sketch, but today’s was just perfect. The challenge today is to use a charm on your project. A few years ago I bought tons of those little dollar charm bracelets at the flea market and tore them all apart. I have a stash of charms. However, all the new ones that I just purchased at Tuesday Morning, I can’t find. CRS? Maybe! Unorganized? Maybe! Just really forgetful? You bet! Anyhoo, here’s my card today.

I colored the image with Copic Markers and then cut the panels for the image with my square Nestabilities. I sanded the edges of all the background paper and added dots with a white opaque pen.
