Thank you, Spellbinders Paper Arts, for sponsoring this contest!

Spellbinders is thrilled to introduce a new line of Edgeabilities® die templates! The new Edgeabilities come in sets of three, and include one Edger for beautifully detailed edge cutting and embossing, and two Decorative Inserts for sophisticated cut and embossed border lines. Mix and match between sets for maximum versatility. The six themed sets combine for over 70 design options! Let me show you how I’ve used them today!

I’m thrilled to share two projects using E8-004 Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities and S4-335 Star Circles with you.

To begin my project, I started with 2 sheets of black cardstock that was cut to 5-1/2 x 11”, scored in the middle at 5-1/2”. (This card can be made in any size you wish, simply adjust the measurements to the size of card you are making.)

Both pieces need to have one side cut at an angle as the sheet on the left. I did this by lining up the score and the bottom edge of the opposite end and cut.

The next step is to die cut/emboss the top of the square side (back of the card) with the Ric Rac Edger die from E8-004 Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities. One edge of the die template was aligned with the edge of the back and taped down to die cut.

Now it’s time to cut the angled side. To do this, the Ric Rac Edger die was taped in position aligning from the top to the bottom of the angle. The second embossing die was aligned and taped into position. To make the spacing easy, I pushed the round portion up to abut with the bottom part of the ric rac.

Once the die cuts and embossing are done, the cardstock should resemble the photograph below. Keep in mind this is only one side of the card.

To make the second side of the card, the square backs were lined up, matching the ric rac cuts for proper spacing.

This second side is die cut/embossed the same as the first.

Graphic 45 The Magic of Oz was used for the designer paper. One panel was cut to fit the back/inside of the card, and two pieces were cut for the diagonals of the front. Measure the fronts carefully and make sure you have the paper in the correct direction for the overlapping panels.

The card is joined together by adhering (I used a 3M tape gun) the decorated back to the plain back. The back of the card will be double layered.

To finish the pocket part of the card and after the backs are adhered together, place a small line of tape or glue to the bottom of one side, fold it over and stick down. You will then do the same for the second side, making sure that the tape or glue is only on the bottom. This keeps the bottom together and forms a pocket to hold an insert.

I like to finish this type of card with an embellishment in the center of the crisscross pattern. To do this, I decided on what image I wanted to use (in this instance on the compasses from paper) and what color of cardstock.

In the image above, the die template on the lavender paper is the 3rd die from S4-335 Star Circles. The remaining two are made from S4-116 Standard Circles SM and S4-114 Standard Circles LG.

These pieces were then glued together. To add some fun, the legs from one of the circles were glued to a piece of chipboard and cut out.

To add a little interest to the legs, Milled Lavender Distress Stickles where added and then added to the front of the compass with two game spinners and a brad.

To make the insert for the pocket, the image and paper were chosen and then die cut/embossed with S4-126 Classic Squares LG and LF-126 Grand Squares.

I actually die cut/embossed two pieces of the lavender paper so that there was a cover for the back for added support and to hold the tab (from Graphic 45 The Magic of Oz Chipboard Die-Cuts 2) in place. You could also write a note on the back of the insert this way.
